Work Shadowing Program

The Work Shadowing Program (WSP) provides you with a one-off immersive opportunity to visit and observe a professional work environment to explore potential career paths and industries while enhancing your networks and connections with employers.

The WSP will allow you to:

  • gain professional work context experience and insight
  • enhance industry knowledge and connectivity
  • develop work-ready skills
  • build early professional networks and connections.

  • Eligibility

    To participate in the program you must:

    • Be a current University of Melbourne student.
    • Be in the first or second year of your undergraduate degree, or first year of your postgraduate degree.
    • Have completed all components of the LMS (Com_02090) and assessment.
  • Registration

    If you believe you will be able to comply with all of the above eligibility for the program, please commence your application once they open at 9am Monday 12 August.

    To register for the program, you must complete the Careers Online registration form and the Work Shadowing Program LMS module (Com_02090) and assessment. To complete the LMS module, follow these steps:

    1. Log into the LMS.
    2. Self-enrol in the Work Shadowing Program Community in the LMS.
    3. Complete the module.

    Note: Completion of the online module/assessment and registration form does not guarantee you a host spot. You will be notified via email whether you progress to the next stage.

  • Participation

      Participation into the Work Shadowing Program is competitive with a limited number of spaces available. Applicants need to ensure they have complied with all eligibility requirements before they can be matched with a potential Host.

      You will be notified of whether you are successfully allocated to a preferred host organisation by mid-September.

      All successful students will be required to attend one of the following Induction workshops prior to their Work Shadowing Program date:

      • Monday 23 September, 2 – 3pm
      • Tuesday 24 September, 12 – 1pm

      Post completion you will be asked to complete a Reflection Module.

    • Employability Week Monday 12 August: Student registration for the program opens
